Dance Initiatives

Purpose: The Dance Initiatives program plays a key role in providing opportunities in which dance can be created, presented and enjoyed. The program supports a broad range of dance including urban, contemporary, classical and traditional dance expressions of all world cultures. It also supports projects that are designed to benefit the larger professional dance community.

The Dance Initiatives program aims to reflect the range of artistic practices in the dance community and to support excellence, regional activity, linguistic and cultural diversity and Aboriginal and Franco-Ontarian identity.

Eligibility: Please refer to the Project Grant Basics for the OAC’s residency requirements and definitions of professional artists and organizations.

In addition, in order to apply to the Dance Initiatives program:

  • Choreographers must have had at least three dance work(s) presented for a paying audience excluding student presentations.
  • Choreographers, members of a collective or a dance company must have completed at least one year of independent dance practice.
  • Dance series/festivals must have a distinct artistic vision that is reflected in the programming and the dance series/festival is its primary activity.
  • An applicant can apply to only one type of grant at each deadline as described on page 3 and 4 of the Program Guidelines.
