Connections and Creativity : A vision for the arts and the people of Ontario, the Ontario Arts Council’s new strategic plan for the next five years is available online.
The plan will provide a framework to guide our priorities in the coming years. Printed copies will be mailed out by the end of August.
“Over the course of our extensive consultation process we heard a great deal about the realities and needs facing the arts everywhere in Ontario,” said John Brotman, OAC Executive Director. "We have developed the vision and the strategies in the plan to respond, and to strengthen the impact of the arts in their communities. We are also introducing new initiatives to fulfill some of the strategies in the plan."
Strategic Planning Process
- Conversations with more than 500 people around the province through community consultations and one-on-one interviews provided the source material from which the final plan evolved.
- The preliminary reports based on these consultations are still available on the OAC website . When they were first posted last February, people had a month to respond to the major themes identified by the consultants.
Funding
- In March 2007, the government of Ontario announced a $15 million increase to OAC’s base funding over three years.
- This increase was followed a year later, by an additional $5 million, bringing the government’s total annual investment in the Ontario Arts Council to almost $60 million by 2009/2010.
- Budget increases to most arts sectors will grow by 30 per cent over three years from 2007 to 2010.
- Some sectors will see larger increases, a reflection of the priorities that form the basis of the new strategic plan.
