MPPs and the arts community rendez-vous at Queen’s Park reception
On November 25, 2008 more than 28 MPPs mingled with the arts community at a Queen’s Park reception hosted by the Ontario Arts Council. The non-partisan event was held to build awareness about the contributions that artists make to Ontario communities and to foster dialogues between MPPs and artists.
Minister of Culture Aileen Carroll, along with culture critics Julia Munro, MPP, York-Simcoe, and Peter Tabuns, MPP, Toronto-Danforth, spoke at the event.
Profiling the arts among MPPs
For more than a year, OAC has been sending letters describing to Members of Provincial Parliament the wonderful range of arts activities that OAC grants support in their ridings. The letters are part of our ongoing efforts to demonstrate the impact of the arts in Ontario communities and to raise awareness about the important role of the arts.
Some MPPs have responded with letters or phone calls to congratulate grant recipients. We encourage arts groups to include their MPPs on mailing lists, and to invite them to opening nights and other special events.
