OAC Pilot Project with York University
OAC is undertaking an arts education pilot project with the Faculties of Fine Arts and Education at York University. This professional development opportunity will be offered to 40 artist educators on OAC’s Artists in Education program roster.
The five-day course runs from Monday August 28, 2006, to Friday, September 1, 2006, at York University’s main campus. It is intended to enhance the role that artists and the arts can play in every student’s education. The program components include the following:
- Teaching methods: what good teaching looks like
- Policies and practices: special education, school safety, school law
- Successful partnering with teachers and volunteers
- Enhancing your artist in the classroom project
- Classroom management, assessment and evaluation
- Communicating the value of the arts
OAC will completely cover the cost of tuition. Some travel subsidy will be available to a limited number of artists who live more than 100 km from Toronto. Applicants will be selected based on OAC’s strategic and arts education goals.
Priority will be given to applicants from the province’s regional, culturally diverse, Aboriginal and Franco-Ontarian communities. Those who successfully complete the 25-hour program will receive a joint certificate from OAC and York University.
