|Program for: Individuals
Purpose: To provide grants of $500 to Deaf artists and artists with disabilities working in visual art or craft practices for the cost of buying materials and supplies to make art work.
The OAC recognizes that Deaf and Disability Arts is a unique, varied and rich artistic practice. In keeping with its strategic plan, Vital Arts and Public Value, the OAC also recognizes that there continue to be systemic barriers for artists who are Deaf and/or have a disability. One solution is the Deaf and Disability Arts Projects program which recognizes Deaf and disability arts practice and OAC’s other efforts to increase accessibility (including support to make a project application and support for accessibility costs associated with funded applications).
Watch Boundless: Deaf Artists, Artists with Disabilities and OAC – a video featuring Deaf artists and artists with disabilities from a range of backgrounds speaking about their experience applying for grants and/or participating on juries. The video incorporates ASL and LSQ and enhanced captioning.
Eligibility: Ontario-based visual artists and craft artists who are Deaf and/or have a disability.
Deaf persons or persons with disabilities includes people who have physical, mental or learning conditions with long-term, temporary or varying effects that may be apparent or not.
- OAC will accept applications at any time, starting September 15, 2015 to February 27, 2016, or until the program budget is spent. Applications received after February 27, 2016 will not be considered.
- Grants are assessed and awarded approximately every six weeks.
