Mary Lue Hinds, Vice-Chair
Mary Lue Hinds was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Arts Council in July 2004, and named Vice-Chair in October 2006, and renewed as Vice-Chair in October 2009.
As a long time resident of Sudbury, Ms. Hinds’ deep involvement in community life is apparent by her many undertakings and extensive volunteer work. Under the patronage of the Sudbury Red Cross, Ms. Hinds created Sudbury’s Meals on Wheels program. In collaboration with the Sudbury Public Library, she also launched a pilot project to deliver books to housebound residents. Ms. Hinds was also a volunteer at both Sudbury’s Memorial Hospital and Laurentian Hospital.
Ms. Hinds was a member of the board of the Sudbury Theatre Centre, and has served on various committees, including the Advisory Committee of Laurentian University Museum and Art Centre, and the Advisory Committee for Arts and Culture of the City of Greater Sudbury.
For more than a decade, Ms. Hinds has been involved with the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF). She founded Sudbury’s LEAF chapter in 1989, and was a longtime member of the LEAF National and the LEAF Foundation boards.
In 1995, Ms. Hinds was awarded the Woman of the Year award from the Sudbury branch of the Hadassah-WIZO Organization of Canada, and in 1998, she received the Jean Harris Award from Rotary International.
