Engaging Seniors Through the Arts Fund

Close

Purpose

The Engaging Seniors Through the Arts Fund was created by the Ontario government as part of its Aging with Confidence: Ontario’s Action Plan for Seniors, a government-wide strategy for Ontario’s seniors to remain socially connected, safe, healthy, and engaged across all phases and types of senior life. Ontario is committed to helping seniors across the province age well and confidently, recognizing their diversity and giving them choices, with a variety of new initiatives. The Engaging Seniors Through the Arts Fund recognizes the role the arts plays in offering a wide range of benefits to seniors, including reduced isolation, increased sense of community, and improved overall well-being. The fund is administered by the Ontario Arts Council, on behalf of the Province of Ontario through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Goals

The goals of Engaging Seniors Through the Arts Fund programs are to:
  • help professional, not-for-profit arts organizations develop strategies to better engage the seniors in their communities, not only as audience members, but as volunteers, ambassadors, trustees and active participants
  • increase arts programming and activities for seniors in community settings, retirement homes, hospitals and long-term care homes
  • support professional art therapy and therapeutic arts programs that address physical and cognitive ailments and disorders in settings where seniors most in need can benefit
Evaluation is a key component of all projects. Evaluation guidelines and tools will be available on program web pages by September 1, 2018. Program details will be available by the end of April 2018. Applications will be available online by September 1, 2018.
