Ontario Dances


The program supports Ontario-based multi-disciplinary arts presenters only in regions outside of Toronto to get more people engaged, interested and invested in dance. It aims to increase the range and diversity of dance available to Ontario communities in these regions. The program offers the public opportunities to participate in dance from dance classes and workshops to community-engaged dance projects to the presentation of dance by Ontario-based professional dance artists and dance companies.

Deadline Dates

May 2, 2017, 1 p.m. ET
  • Applications are available online approximately two months before the deadline.
  • Grant notification will be available approximately four months after each deadline.
  • This program is in year two of a three-year cycle. New applicants must contact the program officer to discuss eligibility. The next deadline for organizations not currently receiving project funding in this program is in 2019


  • Organizations that are not currently receiving funding in this program may only apply in the first year of a multi-year cycle.

Grant amount(s)

  • Multidisciplinary Arts Presenters: maximum $30,000

Eligible applicants

  • Multi-disciplinary arts presenters who are based in regions outside of Toronto.
  • Multi-disciplinary arts presenters who operate under the auspices of a municipality, college and/or university must have an employee responsible for the performing arts programming.
  • Ontario-based, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, colleges and/or universities that present annual performing arts series.
  • You must have a permanent physical address in Ontario.

Ineligible applicants

  • Organizations that receive OAC operating grants.
  • Organizations that apply to or have not received notification that their application is unsuccessful in the following programs: Ontario Arts Presenters Projects or Aide à la diffusion artistique–projets.

This program funds

  • Presentation of Ontario-based professional dance artists and dance companies.
  • Costs for audience development and community-engaged activities.
  • Ontario-based dance animator fee(s).
  • Ontario-based dance artists’ and companies’ engagement fees and touring costs.
  • Multi-disciplinary arts presenter’s funded through this program to attend performances on Ontario-based dance artists/companies.

This program does not fund

  • creating, commissioning, co-producing and rehearsing a dance work
  • overhead costs, including office rent and administration

Activity timing

The activity for which you are requesting funding:

  • cannot start before July 1, 2017; and
  • must be completed by June 30, 2018.

Program-specific definitions

Community-engaged dance projects: Dance projects led by Ontario-based professional dance artists that engages volunteers, audience members, donors and/or local community groups. The collective experience and public presentation emphasize that the integrity of the process is as important as the end product.

Dance animator: A person who facilitates audience- and community-development programs and activities.

Multidisciplinary performing arts presenter: An organization that selects artistic programming for public presentation, pays a guaranteed artist fee for each presentation and covers the presentation costs.
