Changes to how arts grants are treated by the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Ontario Works (OW)
As of December 13, 2017 all arts grants (with the exception of funds provided specifically for living costs), are now exempt as income and assets under the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Ontario Works (OW). This exemption includes grants received through OAC’s programs, the OAC-administered Indigenous Culture Fund, and arts grants from other funders. Artists who are on ODSP or OW and receive an arts grant will no longer have this money deducted from their monthly benefits, and will not have to risk becoming ineligible for support from ODSP or OW. This policy change will allow more artists to pursue arts grants and develop their careers.

Grant-writing workshops and mentorship opportunities for Deaf artists
OAC is pleased to be partnering once again with Anita Small (of Small Language Connections) and Joanne Cripps (of the Deaf Culture Centre) to provide grant-writing workshops for Deaf artists. Workshops will be held in ASL. Following the workshops, artists can participate in one-on-one mentorship sessions with Anita Small to further develop their grant writing skills.

Tangled Art + Disability’s new Outreach & Funding Access Coordinator role
In 2018-19, OAC is funding an Outreach & Funding Access Coordinator role at Tangled Art + Disability in recognition of the role Tangled plays in supporting the Deaf and disability arts community and sector in Ontario. If you have questions about:
- grant-writing assistance for Deaf artists and artists with disabilities;
- key funding opportunities; or
- community focus groups and accessibility support services.
