The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) uses two forms of peer assessment to award grants in this program.
For applications in Category 1 – Tour – Individuals, ad hoc groups, collectives and organizations, assessors evaluate applications using specific program criteria and decide which applicants should receive grants. Their recommendations are approved by OAC’s CEO.
For applications in Category 2 – Large-scale tour – Organizations, assessors provide advice and help set priorities but do not make grant decisions. The program officer makes grant recommendations based on assessors’ comments, OAC priorities, the program budget and the number of applications to the program. These recommendations are approved by OAC’s CEO and board of directors.
To safeguard the integrity of the peer assessment process, we do not allow anyone who has a direct conflict of interest with an application to serve on an assessment panel where that application is to be reviewed. Indirect conflicts of interest are managed by a standard OAC procedure.
