  • The National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYO Canada) was founded in 1960 by Walter Susskind, a former music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
  • Over the past 60 years, it has evolved to become the most comprehensive classical music instructional program in the country. Today, it is led by a world-renowned faculty of professional musicians and educators, and remains entirely tuition-free.
  • NYO Canada serves as a bridge for students between music education and a music career. It has nurtured and inspired successive generations of Canadian artists – today, an estimated one-third of Canada’s professional orchestral musicians count themselves as alumni.
  • Along with its educational and skill-building programs, NYO Canada offers touring opportunities to its students. As of 2019, NYO Canada has performed in every major Canadian city and travelled to 12 countries (and counting).
