What’s new in the Ontario Arts Council’s Artists in Communities and Schools Projects program

February 14, 2019

Attention, applicants to Artists in Communities and Schools Projects! As you’re preparing your 2019 submissions, we would like to highlight a few changes to this program’s application and assessment.

1. New deadline dates

There will be three program deadlines in 2019: March 14, July 30 and November 28, 2019.

2. New grant amounts

The amount that you can request in each of the three categories, as well as for mentorship, has changed. This is to respond to increasing demand, while aiming to fund as many projects as possible.

The new amounts are:

  • Planning: maximum $7,500
  • Project: maximum $12,500
  • Two-year project: maximum $20,000
  • Mentorship: up to $3,000 in any of the three categories above

3. New application questions

Over the past two years, we’ve been collecting feedback from applicants and assessors, and we’ve also consulted with a diverse group of community-engaged artists.

In response to this, we have developed new application questions specific to the Artists in Communities and Schools Projects program, replacing some of OAC’s standardized questions. Read the new questions here.

We hope these questions better reflect the activity of community-engaged practice and align more directly with program priorities.

4. New assessment rubric

The assessment rubric used by assessors to review applications has been revised. Read the new rubric here.

Coming soon!

In late spring 2019, OAC’s Engaging Communities and Schools team will hold a webinar discussing elements of a strong application for the Artists in Communities and Schools Projects program. Stay tuned for more information – we hope you will be able to join us!
