New Indigenous Arts Support program provides funding for aspiring and established Indigenous artists and arts organizations
The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) has established Indigenous Arts Support, a $4-million grant program announced in early November by the Honourable Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries.
The one-time project program supports the artistic practice and career development of First Nations, Inuit and Métis aspiring and established professional artists working in customary, traditional and contemporary art forms, as well as organizational development for Indigenous arts organizations and collectives.
The program has two streams:
Indigenous Arts Support: Grants for Individuals
Individuals can apply for the following amounts:
- Aspiring artists: $3,000
- Professional artists: $15,000
- Curators, programmers, presenters, literary editors: $10,000
Eligible costs include:
- Skills development through training and mentorship,
- Marketing and promotion,
- Purchase of artist materials and supplies,
- Software and hardware upgrades,
- Studio or workspace upgrades,
- Artist website development.

The deadline for individuals to apply is 1 p.m. ET on January 27, 2022.
Indigenous Arts Support: Grants for Collectives and Organizations
This funding stream supports Indigenous arts organizations and eligible artist collectives in administrative capacity-building and the development of artistic sustainability.
Program and application details will be available on OAC’s website on December 20, 2021.
The deadline for organizations and collectives to apply is 1 p.m. ET on January 18, 2022.
