Artists and Culture Workers in Canadian Municipalities
December 1, 2014
This report provides an analysis of artists in Canadian municipalities, based on the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS). The report examines the number of artists, selected demographic characteristics of artists, and artists’ incomes by size of municipality. The report also provides comparable information for cultural workers and the overall labour force. In addition to highlighting the demographic and economic differences by size of municipality, this report also provides key data on artists and cultural workers in each municipality for which there is reliable data.
This report is part of the Statistical Insights on the Arts series by Hill Strategies Research. As mentioned, it is based on data drawn from the National Household Survey (2011).
The Statistical Insights on the Arts series is funded by the Ontario Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts as part of our shared commitment to making arts research available to inform the work of Canada’s arts community and educate the general public about Canada’s arts sector.
