November 1, 2011
A first look at data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth
This report provides a first look at data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth regarding the frequency with which Canadian children between three and seven years of age participate outside of school in the few specific arts-related activities included in the survey. The report also examines variations in children’s participation in the arts and reading based on demographic factors. Some information is provided by province, including Ontario. Where comparative data are available, trends in children’s arts activities between 1998 and 2008 are also highlighted.
This report is part of the Statistical Insights on the Arts series by Hill Strategies Research. As noted, it is based on Statistics Canada’s National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth.
The Statistical Insights on the Arts series is funded by the Ontario Arts Council in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage and the Canada Council for the Arts as part of our shared commitment to making arts research available to inform the work of Canada’s arts community and educate the general public about Canada’s arts sector.
