A Statistical Profile of Artists in Ontario

This study provides an in-depth examination of artists in Ontario, based largely on the 2001 census. Nine arts occupations are profiled, including:
- actors;
- artisans and craftspersons;
- conductors, composers and arrangers;
- dancers;
- musicians and singers;
- other performers;
- painters, sculptors and other visual artists;
- producers, directors, choreographers, and related occupations; and
- writers.
This report endeavors to present detailed, reliable and recent statistics about artists in Ontario, specifically the number of artists, artists’ earnings, selected demographic characteristics of artists, and trends in the arts labour force between 1991 and 2001.
