Program Impacts

Evaluation by partners in the AIR(E) program has shown that it affects participants in the following ways:

Students

  • Increased engagement: Students become more focused and excited by their school work and exhibit on-task behaviours. Students attend more classes.
  • Increased achievement: Students display better understanding of concepts, and their grades improve.
  • Increased opportunities: Students learn in innovative ways.
  • Increased access: Students experience new art forms and practices.
  • Sense of community: Students develop teamwork skills through collaboration with other students and with teachers.

Teachers

  • New skills: The focus on creative processes helps teachers develop an understanding of the arts curriculum. Teachers learn new skills to incorporate into their teaching.
  • Sense of community: Connecting with local artists helps teachers develop an understanding of their school’s cultural communities.

Artists

  • Enriched personal practice: Contact with students can often nourish an artist's personal artistic practice.
  • Sense of community: Artists feel valued by their community for sharing their creative spark, skills and techniques.
