Do you know someone who would make a good OAC assessor?
Peer assessment is an important principle and practice for the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). Every year, OAC invites Ontario arts professionals (artists and arts managers) and community representatives (people who have experience on the boards of arts organizations) to serve as assessors. Assessors review applications and either decide or make recommendations on grant recipients and amounts, depending on the program. A new assessment panel is formed for most granting program deadlines. More than half of the assessors who assess applications to OAC’s programs annually are participating in this process for the first time.
Assessors represent a broad range of perspectives and people with expertise in the arts. The composition of an advisory panel or jury represents the range of applications in the competition and includes arts professionals who are Artists of Colour, Deaf Artists and Artists with Disabilities, Francophone Artists, Indigenous Artists, New Generation Artists (18-30 year olds), and Artists Living in Regions Outside Toronto.
The OAC is committed to accessible participation. Assessors are paid a fee for their time and for reading applications. The OAC covers travel, meals and accommodation for assessors, and may support childcare costs. Accessibility expenses or supports that may be necessary to participate in a jury or advisory panel will be covered or accommodated.
If you would like to be considered as an OAC peer assessor please provide us with the information below. This information will be sent to the appropriate program officer to support the assembly of representative assessment panels. In any given year we receive more names than we can accommodate, so do not be discouraged if you are not contacted immediately. We will keep your information on file and contact you if an opportunity arises.
If you know someone whom you would like to recommend, please forward this form to them and encourage them to send in their information.
