Funding Framework

The mandate of the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) is to foster the creation and production of art for the benefit of all Ontarians.

The arts are essential to the quality of life, cultural identity, social well-being and economic prosperity of Ontario. Access to and participation in the arts enhances lives, fosters creativity and innovation, and strengthens communities. OAC is committed to ensuring equitable access for everyone, with particular emphasis on six priority groups, and the organizations that serve them and the public.

The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) has launched two new pilot programs called Market Development Travel: Dance and Market Development Travel: Northern Arts.

By now, many of you will have heard the good news announced on August 29, 2017, by Premier Kathleen Wynne and Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport: OAC will receive a further funding increase over the next three years on top of this year’s previously announced $5 million. This will bring OAC’s base funding from $60 million per year in 2016-17 to $80 million per year by 2020-21.
