Nomination Deadline

All nominations will be accepted until 1 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
  • The OAC does not accept requests for an extension to submit a nomination. You will be unable to submit your nomination through OAC’s Nova online granting system (Nova) after 1 p.m., nor will you be able to revise or add additional materials after you submit your nomination.

Nova Online Granting System

To provide better service to OAC nominators, as of 2017, the program’s nominations are submitted online through OAC’s online granting system (Nova).

The online nomination is available approximately two months before the deadline.

To start your nomination, go to grants.arts.on.ca, or www.arts.on.ca and log in through “Apply Now.”
Nova is browser based. You can access it from anywhere. There are instructions available on OAC’s website to walk you through the Nova system, from setting up your “Profile” through to submitting a nomination.

Paper nominations will no longer be accepted. However, OAC is committed to having an accessible nomination process, so certain accommodations will be made.

Contact OAC Awards Administrator for assistance with technical issues you may encounter using OAC’s online granting system (Nova).

Support for Deaf Persons or Persons with Disabilities

The OAC can provide an alternate process in which a nominator submits their nomination. Contact OAC Awards Administrator for assistance.

Frequency Asked Questions

How do I find out if my nominee and I are eligible?

The Premier’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts’ web page contains eligibility requirements. To find out, you can go to our website, www.arts.on.ca, or call or email one of the contacts.

Can I talk to someone before I fill out my nomination?

Yes. Contact the Awards Administrator. You will find contact details on the program specific web page. Contact us in advance of the deadline.

Where can I get a nomination?

Nominations are available and submitted through Nova, our online granting system. Awards are open two months in advance of the deadline.

Can I receive this guide and/or a nomination form by fax or email?

All information about awards is available on the web page. The OAC does not produce copies of the guide or nomination form as of 2017.

Can more than one person have access to an online nomination?

Yes. You can work collaboratively, but only one person can work on a nomination at a time. If more than one person is responsible for the preparation of a nomination, you must log out, and then back in, in order for another person to have access to your nomination.

Can I submit my nomination after the 1 p.m. on the deadline date?

No. Late nominations cannot be submitted through Nova, OAC’s online granting system, after 1 p.m. ET.

Can I send my nomination form by mail, fax or email?

No. Nominations must be submitted through Nova, the online granting system, unless you have been approved to submit in an alternate format. Please visit OAC’s website to find our accommodation policy regarding nomination submissions, the Inclusive Application Process Policy. See http://www.arts.on.ca/access-equity/inclusive-application-process-policy.

Can I submit my nomination in French?

Oui. OAC is committed to providing services in French in compliance with the French Language Services Act.

The OAC will use accredited translators to translate nominations submitted in French into English. The English translation is available to nominators for information only. Send a written request to OAC after the award results have been announced if you wish to see the translation.

Works of art (e.g., film scripts) or written materials that have not been asked for in the nomination are not translated or submitted to the jury.

What if I miss the nomination deadline date?

You will not be able to submit a nomination after a deadline has closed.

Can I send extra documents to OAC after the deadline?

No. We do not accept supplementary material after the deadline unless requested by the officer.

Do I submit artistic examples?

No. Artistic examples, e.g. audiovisual materials, are not required and will not be viewed by assessors.

What if my nomination is missing something?

We indicate on the online form the mandatory elements of the nomination. You cannot submit a nomination through Nova, our online granting system, without completing all mandatory requirements. Before submitting your nomination, click on “Validate Nomination” to view which elements are missing or incomplete.

What happens to my nomination after I submit it?

Your nomination is reviewed for eligibility. We notify the nominator if their nomination is ineligible. We send all eligible nominations to the jury for review and assessment.

If my nominee is not named laureate, can I submit the nomination again?

Yes. You can resubmit the nomination at the next deadline, but you must complete a new nomination form and resubmit the required documents each time. It is a new jury each year, so all nominations are treated as new by the jury.

If my nominee is an award finalist but not the laureate, can I submit the nomination again?

Yes. You can resubmit the nomination at the next deadline, but you must complete a new nomination form and resubmit the required documents each time. It is a new jury each year, so all nominations are treated as new by the jury.

Can I find out why I was turned down?

No. We do not provide feedback on your nomination.

If I get turned down, can I appeal?

No. Decisions are final and cannot be appealed. However, if there is evidence that due process was not followed in the decision-making procedures, OAC will investigate.

If my nominee is awarded a prize, do they have to pay taxes?

No. A T4A for the prize amount is not sent to the artist, and they are not required to pay income tax on it. The Premier’s Awards are prescribed prizes and are considered to be recognized by the general public and awarded for meritorious achievement in the arts or service to the public. For information about prescribed prizes, see Government of Canada; Canada Revenue Agency; Income Tax Folio S1-F2-C3; Scholarships, Research Grants and Other Education Assistance; Prescribed Prizes. The OAC does not accept any responsibility for the evaluation of a person’s tax status.
