Le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario (CAO) fait d'habitude appel à des jurys pour évaluer les demandes de subvention présentées par des artistes individuels. Les jurys évaluent les demandes en fonction des critères particuliers de chaque programme et sélectionnent les candidats qui recevront une subvention. Pour les programmes qui n'ont pas de niveaux de subvention fixés au préalable, ils déterminent également le montant de chaque subvention. Le nombre de subventions décernées et leur montant dépendent du budget du programme. Les décisions des jurys sont entérinées par le directeur général du CAO.
 
Pour garantir l'intégrité du processus d'évaluation par les pairs, le CAO ne permet pas à quelqu'un ayant un conflit d'intérêts direct avec une demande de siéger au groupe d'évaluation qui étudie cette demande. Tout conflit d'intérêts indirect est géré conformément aux modalités établies par le CAO.
